An Abbreviated History of the Ancient and Powerful Gnome Race

Chapter 1: The Beginning Gnomes are a quirky demi-Human race who originated somewhere in the middle of the Realm, though the exact location of their birthplace still remains a mystery. Cousins to the Dwarven race, Gnomes have taken up the magical arts in far greater numbers than their bearded cousins. Once thought to have been created by the Gods for amusement (some stories tell of Gods who would put pointy hats on Gnomes, freeze them and put them in gardens as statues), the history is hard to track. Some thoughts rest with the Gnomes being used to help create much of the Realm, with the Dwarven folk used to mine the ore. Gnomish ingenuity and building prowess has been well documented, though it's unclear at which point their inventions turned from simple and effective to outrageously complicated and dangerous. Chapter 2: The Vast Depth of Gnome Culture and Lore Gnomes are known to take on life quests. These quests are large, multi-faceted searches that will often take generations to complete (if they are ever completed). The quests themselves range from finding the cheapest cat food at the market (a quest usually never completed as Gnomes are very cheap with their coin), to uncovering the secrets of Immortality. Gnome life quests normally end in some form of unpleasantness as the questor may get frustrated and attempt to make a machine or cast a spell to expedite the quest a bit. This has never proven to be a good idea and has had unintended consequences that can be felt down through future generations of the Gnome's family. An example of this was with Willy the Wartfoot who attempted to create a flying machine that would enable him to complete his families life quest (to be the first Gnomes on the Moon). So destructive was the explosion from Willy's faulty flying machine that a neighbouring Gnome family took up a life quest to pick up the pieces of the town Willy destroyed. They figure it will take about 4 generations to complete. (Con't on Page3)
Chapter 3: Gnome Courting Rituals (All of this chapter has been ripped out).
