band of thieves belowground, where they lived for decades, biding their time<br />

numbers to swell, their children developing to withstand the treacherous<br />
underground domains. Little order existed in the society, and power was held<br />
by those who controlled what few material goods the group possessed, which led<br />
to incredibly violent skirmishes in attempts to gain them. Over time, after<br />
the original generation had passed on, their history was forgotten. Immolative<br />
magics used during the "Age of Vampires" eventually wore through the overland,<br />
revealing some of the tunnels to the surface. As the magics continued to tear<br />
through vampire after vampire, a few Nosferatu stumbled onto the tunnels, and<br />
entered them, before sealing them off, thinking perhaps they were some<br />
forgotten entrance to their own familiar warrens. These last of the Vampires<br />
finally found the then-childish race of underdwellers, jokingly calling them<br />
"Surreptus", noting their near-worship of the wealthy items and thieving<br />
practices. The Surreptus accepted the Nosferatu into their society as<br />
wise-men, learning of all the practices of the surface world, gasping in awe as<br />
they heard of the treasures to be found. After the rumbling of the warring<br />
above ceased as the remaining vampires on the surfaces eliminated each other,<br />
below the surface, the Nosferatu taught the Surreptus to fight together towards<br />
a common goal, the value of fighting in packs, and usage of lightning fury on<br />
the unexpected, striking the unwary and unprepared before they become aware<br />
of what's going on. With their training complete, the Surreptus venture<br />
upwards towards the surface world that is now so foreign to them.<br />

with the lower denizens of the planet? Verily, I have seen a Nosferatu<br />

fully an hour. I believe that they have more in common with such creatures<br />
than with the humans from whom they have so tragically devolved.<br />
In any event, it is indisputable that whatever crime the Nosferatu<br />
forefather committed has been at least partially expiated upon the flesh<br />
of his progeny. While the Embrace for most of us is a blessed gift,<br />
endowing us with the boon of immortality and the elixir of potency, the<br />
Nosferatu are instead twisted and disfigured beyond human ken by the <br />
transferal of vitae.<br />
The Nosferatu, whether due to their horrid disfigurement or some other<br />
as yet unknown factor, are to a vampire graceless and crude. The refinements<br />
of the higher clans seem lost on them. Even their brute strength, which<br />
occassionally proves useful, is perverted by their brutishness.<br />
Nonetheless, a certain low cunning pervades the Nosferatu. The clan- for<br />
we of the Camarilla go so far as to grant the Nosferatu equal status in<br />
hopes of bettering the hapless race - is infamous for its ability to garner<br />
and compile data of all sorts. I believe this penchant to be instinctual<br />
rather than premeditated, rather like bower-birds adorning their nests with<br />
all manner of gaudy debris. A Nosferatu overhears a half understood snippet of<br />
information or gossip, and then parrots it amongst his own kind, without--<br />

The man spoke some unusual words, and a portal opened, dragged the man inside, <br />
and closed suddenly.<br />

Feralis mages went to work attempting to open the portal. Three days went by, <br />
and finally they succeeded in opening a gateway to the Umbrageous Ruins. <br />
Little did they know, the being who ruled the ruins had been watching them, <br />
and had legions of his followers ready to slaughter the intruders. Gravoc did <br />
not simply let them die, however. He revived them under his control, creating <br />
a clan of undead hunters to battle alongside his other warriors.<br />

Gravoc's first order was for Feralis to obliterate the weakest of the clans he <br />
commanded, Vodikem. Their deaths were quick, and Feralis took over command of <br />
their Citadel. There they remain, eternally serving Gravoc as punishment for <br />

than with the humans from whom they have so tragically devolved.<br />

Nosferatu are instead twisted and disfigured beyond human ken by the <br />

The Nosferatu, whether due to their horrid disfigurement or some other<br />
as yet unknown factor, are to a vampire graceless and crude. The refinements<br />
of the higher clans seem lost on them. Even their brute strength, which<br />

Nonetheless, a certain low cunning pervades the Nosferatu. The clan- for<br />
we of the Camarilla go so far as to grant the Nosferatu equal status in<br />

rather than premeditated, rather like bower-birds adorning their nests with<br />

For many millennia there have been tales of an ancient Order<br />
of magicians that resides in the mystical forests of Crystalmir<br />
Lake. The locals from the region refer to these mysterious magi<br />
as the Arcanes. A group dedicated to the study and mastery of<br />
the magicks.<br />

The Arcanes have a long and tumultuous history. Centuries of<br />
corruption and treachery crippled the Order and brought it <br />
close to extinction. Those that dared travel into the forests<br />
during those dark times swore that they could smell the foul<br />
odour of Balzhur's breath lurking in the air. <br />

In more recent times, life seems to have returned to the area<br />
surrounding Crystalmir Lake. New stories are being told of a<br />
group of necromancers from the Clan Ombra who have defected<br />
from the shadowy path to rebuild the ancient Order of Arcanes.<br />

The Order of Arcanes is one of the oldest organisations in the Realms of Despair. Between<br />
1995 and 1996, the Arcanes was a [[Pkill]] clan. At the end of the Age of the Old Clans the<br />
Clan Arcanes restructured itself into an Order.<br />
<br />
Between February and March 2018, Daedalas, Incendi and Otari took over as the leaders of<br />
the Order of Arcanes. Since that change in leadership, the Order of Arcanes has:<br />
* forged an alliance with the Clan Ombra<br />
* had its headquarters completely rebuilt and modernised<br />
* abolished the redundant Council of Light, Scouts and Elders<br />
* created a new Council of Shadows<br />
